- I don't own very much, why would I need Renters Insurance?
You might be surprised at the value of your property – TV,
stereo, furniture, clothing, etc. Use the personal property calculator to estimate
the total value of your possessions. Can you afford to replace them without insurance?
- What is covered under Renters Insurance Select?
This policy provides valuable replacement cost protection for your
personal property including clothing, electronics, jewelry, furniture and other
personal items from specified types of loss. It also provides coverage for personal
liability made against you for bodily injury or property damage. There are optional
coverages which you can select if you want a higher level of protection for some
of your more valuable items including artwork and jewelry. To view a sample of our
policy, click here.
- What is the difference between contents and liability insurance?
Contents insurance covers your personal possessions from loss or
damage resulting from covered perils. Liability insurance will typically cover you
for unintentional injury or damage caused to another person and their property,
as well as for damage to the apartment home or community.
- When will I be insured?
If you have enrolled on the same day as the effective date, your
policy will become effective at 12:01 AM on the date following the enrollment date.

effective at 12:01 AM on that date.

- Are hurricanes covered?
Generally, yes. Windstorm is a covered peril.
In some states such as Florida, hurricane coverage is
available only for certain areas and not for others.
However, personal property contained in a building and
damaged by rain, snow, sleet, sand or dust would only be
covered if the direct force of wind or hail damages the
building causing an opening through which the rain, snow,
sleet, sand or dust can enter. Limitations also apply to
water craft and trailers. See policy for complete details.
- I live in Florida. What do the terms AOP, HUR and ORL mean?
AOP stands for All Other Perils deductible.
It is the deductible associated with all other
perils except hurricanes. HUR is the deductible
associated with a loss resulting from a hurricane. ORL
stands for Ordinance or Law coverage based on the amount
of building additions and alterations coverage
when repairing or replacing a dwelling after a covered loss.
- What type of coverage is provided for jewelry, guns, computers
and printers, radios, TVs, stereos, video cameras, camera equipment
and silverware?
This policy provides coverage, up to the stated policy limit,
for these items if they are damaged but limits the amount we
will pay if these items are stolen.
- Is my roommate covered under this policy?
The roommate must be specifically named as an insured on the
policy. Otherwise, unless that person is a relative they
would not be covered and should purchase their own Renters
Insurance.
- What about items in my garage or in a storage unit?
Your property is covered anywhere in the world. However, if
the loss occurs away from the residence premises, your coverage
will be limited to 10% of the policy limit or $1000, whichever
is greater.
- Are art collectibles such as dolls or figurines covered?
Yes, we would cover these items, up to the policy limit, but
not on a replacement cost basis. Items such as collectibles
would require a written appraisal prior to coverage.
- Is there any coverage for business use or business property?
No, this policy applies to personal property only.
- Is cash covered?
Yes, cash is covered up to $200.
- Is my personal property covered while I am moving from one
residence to another?
Yes, for 30 days after you begin to move, the policy recognizes
your new residence as an insured location.
- Will the landlord's insurance cover my losses?
Generally, insurance carried by the landlord only covers property
damage not your personal belongings or your personal liability.
With Renters Insurance Select, your personal property is
protected up to the coverage amount you elect. The amount
may vary depending on your location but you generally can
elect up to $50,000 in personal property coverage.
- What happens to my Renters Insurance Select policy if I move?
